When we first moved into our new house, I was soooo excited to have Pergo flooring in the kitchen. I've always thought pergo was "da bomb." Ok, so I'd never really say that, but you get the point. Anyway, besides having pergo, we were even more ecstatic to have a dishwasher. Anyone who has gone even a few days without one knows exactly what I am talking about. So the friendly plumber comes over and installs the dishwasher about 3 days after we'd moved in, and on that same day, Charles and I go to Manhattan for most of the afternoon. When we came back, we were horrified to find a pond in the basement, and even more shocked to find the pond was coming from the dishwasher (the first pond, I won't even get into the lake we had for awhile). As we investigated, we noticed that oddly enough, when you get enough water under pergo, the floor doesn't stay in one place. It buckles, it seeps, it looks like crap. Kind of like War of the Worlds when the monsters are coming out of the ground. We called the contractor, (luckily we have a 1 year warranty on the house) as it was his plumber, and sure enough, a faulty pipe had been put in. This was, as I said, the first few days we'd been there, which was May 19th? Today, finally, the floor guys come to repair the floor. For those of you a little slower in the 'rithmetic department, i's July 13th, almost 2 months later. Only takes about 3 hours, and then the other workers come to put the trim and doors back on...when one of them turns the water on in the sink, and water starts gushing out ALL OVER THE DAMN FLOOR! Since there was no trim, that made getting under the pergo very easy for all that water, soaking the entire thing, again. Not even 2 hours after we had finally gotten the floor fixed! Un-fuckin-believable (sorry to anyone that may be offended there, but that is the only thing that was running through our minds at that point). To make a long story short, the contractor came over, moved the appliances out again, tore up the floor, and there is now a fan blowing in the kitchen to try to get the wood under the pergo to dry, so that they can come back again tomorrow and do the whole thing over, again. Maybe laminate WOULD have been better.
